Nutmeg oil is a volatile essential oil.  It's produced by steam distillation from fresh, dried, ground, nutmeg seeds.  It's colorless to light yellow in tint.  It has a sharp, spicy, woody, aroma and thin consistency. 

Nutmeg is usually seen in ground, powdered or grated form.  Nutmeg oil is used as its replacement.   It's healthful for the body, inside and out!

The Myristica fragrant evergreen tree grows tropical fruit.  Inside this fruit is an egg shaped seed, (nutmeg), with a dried reddish covering called mace.  This tree is harvested seven to nine years after planting.  It's native to the Mollucca Islands of Indonesia.  It grows, now, in Malaysia, the Carribean and southern India. 


Nutmeg boosts appetite. Use it in sweet and savory dishes.  Use in potato dishes, soups, sauces, baked goods, eggnog, apple cider, syrups, sweets, beverages, or processed meats.  Add it to vegetables with brussels sprouts, cauliflower or string beans.

It stimulates and invigorates the mind.  It boosts concentration.  It helps recover from fainting spells.   It has aromatherapy benefits.  A nutmeg oil blend induces a warm spice of inspiration.  Nutmeg can be effective against anxiety or depression. Use nutmeg blends as a room freshener.

Use nutmeg essential oil for making homemade soap. The essential oils of nutmeg can have wide variations of color from brilliant orange to pale yellow. It doesn't take much, only a drop or two in your homemade soap recipe. It blends well with other essential oils including: lavender, rosemary, orange, black pepper, clary sage, eucalyptus, geranium, ginger, yiang yiang or other spice oils.

A homemade soap with a touch of nutmeg oil relieves acne, reduces acne scars, improves dull or oily skin and helps fade fine lines and wrinkles. This homemade soap is invigorating with a touch of spicy, woody, tones.


CAUTION! Essential oils contain bioactive ingredients. They contain natural chemicals that interact with biological systems. They're potent chemicals! Use with care! Never use large amounts externally, or internally. Never use straight. They must always be diluted in carrier oil, or soap, lotion, or other buffering agent. Finally, never use them without knowing what their bioactive compounds are known to do.

Nutmeg is used to combat acne and get rid of blackheads.  Find a homemade face mask!


Combine 2 tbsp. of warm organic honey, (not hot), with 1 tsp. organic lemon juice, 1/4 tsp. organic cinnamon and 1/4 tsp. organic nutmeg until a pasty texture. 

Apply mixture to face, evenly and gently, in circular motions.  Avoid eyes, ears, and nose or any other sensitive areas.  Leave on for 15 minutes.  Rinse face, thoroughly, with warm and cold water.  Pat dry. 

This homemade face mask relieves oily skin.  Stimulate skin, combat acne and get rid of blackheads.  CAUTION!  Discontinue treatment, immediately, if experiencing any burning, irritation or discomfort.  Do not use if you have any nut allergies.  Do not use on sensitive skin.  Do not use if pregnant.

A cream with nutmeg can aid in relieving muscular aches and pains. It reduces inflammation and swelling of joints. Nutmeg oil is found in many cosmetic or pharmaceutical products like after shave lotions and creams.

Nutmeg adds warm brown highlights to hair.


Nutmeg helps to lighten hair by adding warm, brown, highlights. It's often found in commercial hair dyes.


Nutmeg can be skin irritating, for some, especially those with sensitive skin. Adverse reactions of allergies, contact dermatitis and asthma have been reported. Avoid using if you have nut allergies. Avoid using if you're pregnant. Never use nutmeg, in large doses, since toxic symptoms, like nausea or tachycardia, can occur. Those with psychiatric condition should avoid excessive use. Nutmeg has been known for its psychoactive properties of producing fear, anxiety and hallucinations, however there is still some lacking evidence in these clinical studies.
