Soft Soap

My soap bars, after 4 weeks drying, are still a little soft. When we use them in the bath or shower they get extremely soft and dissolve, quickly. What am I doing wrong or how can I make them harder?

ANSWER:

Here are a couple of possibilities. You need some different oils to harden the soap. Try Cocoa Butter and/or Lard. Are you using a soap dish that drains well? You might try reducing your amount of superfatting (use a little more lye than you have been...try not to superfat more than 5%). If all else fails, you can add Sodium Lactate to the get a harder soap. Use the lye calculator at the, MMS Site, to find the amount of sodium lactate needed for your recipe. They sell it on their site, also. Good luck!

Thanks for the Question!
