Benefits of dark chocolate for body, skin and hair! Get ready chocolate lovers! You're going to love it!
The main ingredient in dark chocolate are cacao beans, the seeds of the Theobroma cacao tree. The seeds are dried and processed to produce chocolate. Pure dark chocolate has a strong, robust, bitter flavor. The more cacao in chocolate, the higher its nutritional value. Dark chocolate is known as a superfood, but it does have its cautions.
DARK CHOCOLATE TIPS
The names cacao and cocoa are interchangeable. Look for organic, non-GMO, dark chocolate with about 70% or more cacao without added fat and sugar. Try finding dark chocolate that is not processed with alkali. Cocoa processed with alkali is called “dutched” cocoa. It is not unsafe but it offers less health benefits than pure cacao. Avoid chocolate with added fillings, packed with sugar and hydrogenated oils. A nibble of pure dark chocolate, everyday, is satisfactory. One to two ounces, per day, is enough for maximum consumption.
Some healthy dark chocolate brand names include: Pascha, Sweetriot, Alter Eco, Ghirardelli Intense Dark, Godiva, Lindt, Chocolove, Endangered Species, Taza, Theo, Vivani, Moser Roth, Amano, Giddy Yoyo and Scharffen Berger.
There is a difference between dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate. Milk chocolate contains less cacao bean than dark chocolate. It’s diluted with milk solids, cream, sugar and other additives. White chocolate is made from cocoa butter, with no cacao bean solids. Vanilla or other flavorings may be added. It lacks the antioxidant properties offered by pure dark chocolate.
Free radicals attack the body on a daily basis. They speed up the aging process with a breakdown of collagen and reduced oxygen levels found in cells.
Dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants! Antioxidants are the body’s friend. They are the great defender against free radicals. They seek out and destroy free radicals that wreck havoc on the body. Repair skin cells and neutralize free radicals.
